Case Study ~ Cincinnati Park Board

This game was designed for Cincinnati Parks. It is an educational game with multiple components. There are four different packs that contain 13 cards in each suit. There are 4 of each suit just like in a card deck. The four suits in this card game are wildlife, architecture, activities, and plants. All of which would be found within the park and specific to Ohio. The cards can be used to play go fish and a memory/matching card game. Once all of the cards are turned on their backs, they assemble to make a puzzle and a poster.

A series of logos were also designed for the 100th year Centennial celebration. The celebration was to signify the new master plan. This series of icons/logos was designed to compliment the existing park logo. The logo was also design to be used on business collateral: letterhead, envelope and business cards.

Case Study ~ Expand

CASE STUDY (images attached): Expand your knowledge, friends, and experiences! A Christian based, Jesus centered message to teens about the “real authenticity of Jesus Christ”. This was a case study that I did while attending the University of Cincinnati’s DAAP program for graphic design. The project was to select a cause and design materials to support that cause. The cause chosen was telling teens about Jesus Christ. The most important cause to me is sharing the message of the Gospels.

The challenge was how to get that message across to kids today. If someone told me that a old-dead guy was raised from the dead a thousand years ago to save me of my sins, it would sound crazy to me too. It is only because of my personal experiences that I find Jesus to be a real living personal Savior and Lord of my life. Along with this generation of electronics, video games, media and short attention spans, what was the best way to tell about Christ in a real way that was powerful and impactful?

After much reading and research, I decided the best method was to tell personal stories. Then I needed to decide how to get kids to read those stories? That is when I decided that an academic planner would be the best way. Most kids use them daily, and if the stories were spread throughout the planner, and designed with a fun theme then the kids could catch a glimpse here and there: in class, at home, any time they wrote something down in their planner. This would be something that would get kept and not thrown away. Everyone can relate to a good story, and Jesus also used stories and parables to teach. The stories needed to be about real kids, teens and young college aged adults that had already entered into a personal relationship with Jesus. The stories spoke about how they knew Jesus was real and their experiences. These stories are entertaining, moving and fun to read. I interviewed several people and selected several best stories to use as samples in this case study. The ideas was to have one story per month of the academic planner. Other fun facts were mixed in about real kids just like those that would be reading this planner ~ favorite colors, music, movies, and more.

Other collateral pieces were also included: a web site, business cards, notepads, etc. With the age of my space and face book, I decided that a web site would be developed to help kids along in their journey. There would be three components to the web site. [1] Knowledge: a place to get the tough questions answered by an anonymous pastor or counselor. As well as Bible studies, verses and a Q & A section about Jesus. [2] Friends: would function much like my space and facebook. It would be a place to connect with other kids, teens, family, parents, siblings, youth pastors, etc. and [3] Experiences: a place where kids could sign up for service projects, get involved in a church, find a small group and see upcoming events like concerts, rock climbing, etc.
